Chris Greene passed on this great sheet which details numerous groups you can join in edmodo that relate to your subject / year group. These groups are updated regularly with useful resources for you to use and a personal learning network for you to connect with. Click on the blue button then click on the group URL that will open in the sheet. You will then be asked if you wish to join the group. I find this useful for keeping upto date with teaching resources, tools and techniques. CLICK HERE for the sheet Enjoy

Create a filter to prevent emails going to spam

Image
The Google spam filter can at times mark good emails as spam. It is a good idea for users to regularly check the contents of their spam folder to see if it contains important emails. If you want to prevent emails from a particular domain (e.g. the school domain @bisphuket.ac.th) ever being placed in spam then follow the steps to create a filter that will do this. Open GMail and go to Settings (from the  drop down menu under the "cog" icon. Select the Filter tab Enter the domain in the FROM box CRITICAL if your email is also in the domain then add -youremail (there is a minus sign before your email address, which removes it from the search, otherwise every mail you send will also appear in the Inbox) Click "Create Filter" Select the option "Never send it to Spam" Click create filter Those emails should now never go to spam, but remember those from other users may still be placed in the Spam folder so continue to regularly check that fold...

Apple ID for Primary Students

There are two main options for an Apple ID to use when installing an iPad for a Primary student. The recommended approach is to set up a Family Apple ID and create the child a personal Apple ID within that structure. The alternative is to use an adult Apple ID and completely manage the iPad for the child. It is recommended that student's should not have access to a parents main Apple ID or an Apple ID with credit card information attached. It is generally not possible to create an standard Apple ID linked to Thailand without providing valid credit card information. If you create an Apple ID from a different country then it may be possible to create an account without any payment information or by using an iTunes or AppStore Gift card (from the correct country). The address you give needs to match the country you are registering the account in and the age must be over 13. For a Family Apple ID more information and instructions for creating are given at  https://support.apple.c...

Configuring an iPad for a Primary Student

Before we start the process of configuring an iPad, a few suggested precautions Do NOT give your child the password for your own Apple ID Do NOT put an Apple ID with Credit Card payment activated on a child's iPad Do completely restore an iPad to factory settings before giving to a child. If you share an iPad with a child consider very carefully what passwords and log ins you allow the ipad to remember (do you want any user of the iPad to post to your Facebook or access your ban account?) Remember your child is likely to at times to allow friends to use the iPad Always GIFT paid apps to your child or use a Family Apple ID where you have to approve installations and any expenditure Warning: There are children who have "accidentally" spent thousands of dollars of their parents money, when those precautions have been ignored. There is a lot of information on the internet regarding how to configure iPads and create Apple ID's, however details of the informat...

Office for Mac - August 2015

Image
Currently Microsoft are in the process of releasing a new version of Office for Mac, Office 2016 for Mac. At the time of writing Microsoft are no longer supplying new versions of the previous Office for Mac 2011, and currently the only access to Office 2016 for Mac in Thailand appears to be by subscribing to Office 365. Although its importance is decreasing and it is not essential, BISP does still recommend that students purchase a version of Microsoft Office. Currently options for doing this are: Some shops still have copies of Office 2011 for Mac available, but these are not at educational prices and it is outdated software. Purchase a subscription to Microsoft Office 365, an annual subscription to Office 365 Home edition is Baht 2499 per year and provides licenses for 5 computers (belonging to 4 different users). Purchase link (Thai language)  https://products.office.com/th-th/office-365-home Register for a 1 month free trial of Office 365, hoping within one month Mi...
